Saints, Sites, and Settlements Tours
Come with us as we explore the history of the Latter-day Saints in these valleys of the Rocky Mountains. There is so much history and so many fascinating stories that took place right here in Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. We have organized short, inexpensive tours that will go out and explore, sites, settlements, temples, tabernacles, and cemeteries as we learn our local history–what happened, and who made it happen.
Each tour will travel by bus to various places where we will explore those sites and hear the stories taught by missionaries and local guides. Glenn will lead the tours and teach along the way. Most of the tours will be out and back in one day, thus saving the costs of expensive hotels and restaurants. You can pick and choose which tours you would like to take, or you can sign up for all and save money. You are invited to come and learn the rich and colorful history that took place in your own backyard.
All trip itineraries are subject to change as per current conditions, timing, group preference and at the sole discretion of the trip leader. However, each day will be chock full of stories and histories of the various areas.
This tour will start at This is the Place Heritage Park and follow the footsteps of those pioneers who first entered the Valley in the summer of 1847. We will visit the last miles of the Pioneer Trail, the monument where Brigham Young declared, “This is the right place. Drive on!” The first encampments of the pioneers in the Valley. Ensign Peak, Temple Square and the base meridian, the Salt Lake Tabernacle and the Holy Temple. We will close the afternoon at the Pioneer cemetery, enjoy a catered dinner back at the Park and be home by dark.
This tour will begin near the pioneer settlement of Mosquito Springs, west of Ogden. (Near Hooper, Utah) We will travel through the back roads along the old pioneer trail road, up through to colorful Corinne, Utah. We will then turn east and go over to Brigham City and its historic tabernacle, and then work our way south down highway 89 stopping in Ogden at historic Fort Buenaventura. We will explore all the way back to Sessions Settlement known today as Bountiful—stopping at sites of interest along the way. We then cross I-15 and make our way back north to an amazing catered dinner and concert near where you parked your car and send you home to sleep in your own bed.
This tour will pick up where we left off in Ogden and we will journey to Logan where we will visit the Logan Temple and Tabernacle. We will cross the valley to Clarkston and visit the grave of Martin Harris. We then journey north through Whitney and Preston to the site of the Bear River Massacre. We will then return to Ogden for a catered dinner and home.
This tour will leave from This is the Place Heritage Park and travel down I-15 to St George. We will make as many stops as time will allow. We want to stop at Cove Fort and the Old Capital at Fillmore. We will spend the night in St. George. The following day we will experience St. George Live. From there we will spend the day exploring the history of the area. That night we will enjoy a catered dinner, and if you choose, a temple session. The next day, we depart St. George and return to Salt Lake via Highway 89. We will pass through the settlements of Panguitch, Circleville, up through the Valley of the San Pete, the Manti Temple, and finally back to I-15 and to your car, parked at the This is the Place. We will again enjoy a catered dinner and head home.
This tour will begin in South Salt Lake and will pass down through back streets of the Salt Lake Valley stopping at significant historical places along the way. We will go over Point of the Mountain and visit various sites in Utah Valley. We will learn the story of the saints first coming to the Valley in 1849, the Indian Tribes that made the Valley their home. We will visit old Fort Utah and the Provo City Center Temple and learn their fascinating history. In the late afternoon we will return to Salt Lake for a catered dinner at the Park.
This tour received rave reviews in Oct 2022 and Glenn will be doing it again with a few changes. This tour will take you through the mountains of eastern Idaho and western Wyoming. Our turn-around point was Jackson, Wyoming. We passed through the historic Malad Valley, old Pocatello, Eagle Rock (Idaho Falls) and into Rexburg. We passed the site of the old Teton Dam. From there we went over the Range to Jackson and stopped at the historic Moulton Barn. From there we spent the night in Afton, Wyoming. The next morning, we will journey over to Evanston, Echo and Big Mountain. The colors were awesome and the scenery breathtaking. We returned to our cars in the evening and a catered dinner at the Park.
PENDING INTEREST: Eastern Utah Tour (3-4 Days)
We are also considering a tour of the Canyonlands, Bluff Fort, and many Eastern Utah locations that have amazing history and stories but are rarely visited and lesser known. We are taking a waiting list for those interested in having us do this tour. There is no cost to signup to be on the waiting list. If we have sufficient interest, we will schedule this tour for early Fall.
